Compare the BMW X3
to the Lexus RX and Audi Q5

See How the New BMW X3 Compares to its Competitors

At BMW of Sarasota, we think a luxury SUV should be a joy to drive. The new BMW X3 is an energetic crossover that's thrilling to drive and relaxing to ride in. It's also filled with gratifying tech features. Other SUVs such as the new Audi Q5, Lexus RX, and Mercedes-Benz GLC also offer refined luxury, but they can't match the overall excellence of the X3. The following comparison explains why.

BMW X3 vs. Audi Q5

Both the new BMW X3 and the new Audi Q5 have posh, roomy interiors, but the X3 has more space to store your luggage or shopping bags. It has 28.7 cubic feet of room behind the second-row seats and 62.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. The new Audi Q5 only has 25.8 cubic feet of room behind its back seats and 54 cubic feet with those seats folded down. The X3 also has nicer standard tech features, including a navigation system and a 12-speaker audio system. The Q5's standard stereo system only has 10 speakers and navigation is just optional.

If you want to be able to merge easily onto the freeway, you need a muscular engine. The new BMW X3 comes standard with a 248-horsepower four-cylinder motor, but a turbocharged 382-horsepower V6 is available in BMW M40i models. The new Audi Q5 also has two engine options, but its strongest motor only generates 260 horsepower.

BMW X3 vs. Lexus RX

The new BMW X3 is a compact luxury SUV, so its 248-horsepower four-cylinder base engine moves it with authority. With this setup, the X3 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in around six seconds. With the optional 382-horsepower V6, it can rocket from 0 to 60 in just over four seconds. The midsized Lexus RX comes with a 275-horsepower four-cylinder engine, but it takes over seven seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill.

The new BMW X3 has one of the largest cargo holds in the compact luxury SUV segment. With the back seats folded down, it has 62.7 cubic feet of cargo space. The new Lexus RX only has 46.2 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats folded.

BMW X3 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLC

The new BMW X3 provides a fantastic mix of a cushioned ride and nimble handling. It's a blast to drive through gentle curves and tight corners, yet its ride remains comfortable and compliant. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC has a soft, smooth ride, but it's focused on comfort rather than sportiness, so it doesn't handle quite as deftly as the X3.

You'll have more room to stow your sports gear or camping equipment in the new BMW X3. It has 28.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, but fold those seats down and you have more than 62 cubic feet of room. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC has just 21.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind its back seats and 56.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.
